The Party’s Over…Resuming College After Winter Break
Santa Claus has come and gone. The boisterous carols and shrieking noisemakers have been silenced. And you’re sitting in the lap of a new month. Up ahead is another semester or quarter of higher learning. Is that squeaking coming from your rusty parts? Is yawning your primary mode of communication? Well, you’re not alone. Many, if not the majority, of students still are in loaf mode after emerging from winter break. But emerge you must, ready to attack the books and gulp down mountains of info. How will you gear yourself out of park? Simple. Just follow these proven holiday recovery steps.
Organize. Sure, you’d rather skip the first week of classes. Nothing much happens then anyway, right? Wrong. Every second counts in the collegiate world, and falling behind even one day pushes you right into a game of academic catch up. Not the funnest sport in the world. Do yourself a huge favor and organize a schedule that earmarks time for all the important things – classes, studying, and, of course, Wii karaoke.
Get a Head Start. Unless you’re professor took lessons from Captain Bligh, chances are real good that your first few weeks on academic turf will be a breeze. This is your golden opportunity to get a jump on your courses. Simply hit the books hard from the opening bell. The effort will bolster your grades early on, eliminating the need to overcompensate when the semester and your energies wind down.
Exercise More Than Your Mind
OK, you’re pushing your mental muscles to the limit. But don’t forget your body. Remember, this is the energy source powering your gray matter through the academic obstacle course. Make time for physical exercise each day. We’re talking something slightly more rigorous than mouse-clicking.
So there it is. Your key to full, post-holiday recovery. Just make these simple guidelines part of your daily regimen, and you’ll be well on your way to academic bliss.
