Why We Like to Learn from Each Other!
The Value of Social Learning
While we often learn from, like, and admire our teachers and instructors; we really prefer to learn from those who have “been in our shoes.” We figure, and rightly so, these individuals know what to do or have already done it! The more we can meet people where they are, and the greater the supply of solutions we have at our disposal, the better we can tackle problems and overcome challenges.
Peer-To-Peer Learning Leads to Great Insight
Learning from each other eliminates theory and almost always gives us practical information and advice we can act on immediately by adding discussions, sharing of experiences, and lessons learned. Our peers know how we feel and what we face. We know much of their advice comes from the “school of hard knocks” and through their experiences we can avoid the mistakes and pitfalls of others. Sharing our involvements and insights (and maybe most importantly, failures) can really benefit each other.
Providing opportunities for this peer-to-peer learning is easier than you think! The new Social Learning Platforms create an environment and an actual place where quick videos and a Q&A function enables all employees to teach and learn from each other.
