WHAT HAPPENS IF HE DOESN’T BECOME A MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PLAYER?
I had this conversation with a very supportive but concerned dad. His fourteen year old son lives, eats, and breathes baseball. He has always watched the Major League Baseball (MLB) channel instead of cartoons and, of course, he actively plays club baseball and hopes to make the high school team.
This young man desires a career as a baseball player and, like his father; he understands that he needs a “Plan B.” His dad wants to help his son discover the many additional career options available that include this passion. We brainstormed a list that includes training, coaching, sports management/ marketing, and scouting on either the college or professional level.
Now, the research and fun can begin!
- Dad and son can reach out to their many contacts to find adults who hold these jobs and can share their experiences and insights.
- They can also start researching colleges and majors that match and support these baseball/sports related careers.
- In addition…volunteering, internships, and part-time jobs can be explored.
No one knows how far this young man will go in baseball.
What he is learning is his dream can take many forms!
