Crack the Code of Education Reform
People, it’s time to join the rebellion. No, I haven’t suddenly cast off convention and taken a radical turn. I’m referring to a goal embraced by parents, students, and educators for decades – reforming our educational system. The answers are there for us to discover. But first we’ll have to crack the code of education reform in America.
Surprisingly, the inspiration for my outlook didn’t come from a scholarly article painstakingly scribbled by a noted professor. Nor did I dive into a major cyber-search, wading through acres of web pages to extract new wisdom. No, the foundation of my optimism is a wonderful movie many of you already may have seen – “Race to Nowhere.”
The movie perfectly articulates the opinion held by many people in many circles – our educational system is broken, and it needs fixing…fast. Now don’t expect this cinematic masterpiece to be a repair list laced with abundant finger-pointing. Digging way, way down into the deepest recesses of academia, the movie vigorously challenges our assumptions about education young adults and preparing them to be productive citizens. More importantly, however, it’s a clarion call to all interested parties. It’s saying loud and clear — mobilize and conquer the problem, or it will get worse. Which puts the ball in your court. How will you play it?
Who has seen this outstanding movie? Who’s planning to see it? Would really like to get your feedback about the experience. So feel free to fire off your comments, reviews, and reactions below. And, of course, if you have any questions or thoughts about choosing a career, we’re always ready to help.
